Hatha Yoga

Hatha Yoga is great for beginners and Hatha practice is where all yoga is derived from.

Initially you will learn basic poses, relaxation techniques and terminology which you will find in almost every other style of yoga.

It can be strengthened, allowing the student to advance and build  to a Hatha flow class, which, using a series of sequenced movements would encompass more difficult postures using strength, stability and balance.

Yoga has many health benefits which help to release tension, develop better concentration as well as strengthening and toning your entire body.

The beauty of our class is that you can work at your own level and challenge yourself as far as you feel comfortable under the guidance of your teacher.  It is suitable for all ages and abilities from beginners to those with a good fitness level.

Pilates

Pilates is a mind body conditioning exercise program originated by Joseph Pilates.  It focuses attention on core postural muscles that help keep the human body balanced and provide support for the spine. In particular, Pilates exercises teach awareness of breath and of alignment of the spine, and strengthen the deep torso and abdominal muscles.

This is achieved through eight main principles; concentration, centring, breathing, isolation, routine, precision, control and flowing movement.

Pilates suits all ages and fitness levels and is particularly beneficial for those with back pain, poor postures, neurological conditions,  sports injuries, arthritis, stress related illness and before and after pregnancy.

Pilates Reformer
  IMGP1999

Using a Pilates Reformer brings another dimension to our Pilates services.  The extra external resistance from the springs and the effort required to stabilise the body on a moving platform adds a different challenge to your programme and helps produce faster results for a strong body

The Pilates Reformer is the most popular and versatile piece of all the Pilates equipment. It opens the door to hundreds of strengthening and stretching exercises and also acts as a powerful rehabilitation tool. Exercises on the Pilates Reformer machine are precise and combine movements in several planes of motion, which requires a strong mind/body connection.

Not only can you strengthen you core muscles with Pilates exercises on the reformer but you can also get your hips and knees moving quickly after knee and hip surgery as you perform movements lying down using the springs as resistance rather than being on your feet. It is not only for the lower body, the shoulders and muscles around the shoulder blades can be mobilised and strengthened to help recovery after fractures, rotator cuff sprains and impingement problems.

Benefits

  • New challenges to Pilates exercises
  • Slow, controlled movements
  • Strengthen from injury
  • Added resistance

Nordic Walking
NW_3896b

Nordic Walking is a safe, natural, dynamic fun activity where the use of a specially designed pair of Nordic Walking poles is added to your regular natural walking technique.

Correct technical use of the poles helps maintain good posture and integrates the activation of your upper body into the walking, simply meaning you work more muscles at a higher rate!

Nordic Walking can burn similar amounts of calories as running, swimming or aerobics but without the effort being so noticeable.

One of the best things about Nordic Walking is that it can be done almost anywhere and in places where you would normally walk; grass, canal paths, tarmac.

We offer 3 weekly walking groups led by a qualified instructor:

Tuesday - This is a fitness walk, you should be able to walk a minimum 5 km comfortably at a reasonable pace.

Wednesday - A more slower paced and smaller distance walk. This may be more suitable for rehab purposes or lower fitness levels.  This session also offers opportunities for technique review.

Thursday - We call this our Wellness walk! Ideal for getting back into exercise, for anyone lacking exercise confidence or simply looking for new daytime challenge. This session also offers opportunities for technique review.
